Everybody eats food, and most people get most of their food from grocery stores. A lot of us struggle to make decisions we feel good about when it comes to the foods we buy for ourselves and our families. The media and nutrition scientists don’t usually make it any easier, as new information about what to eat (or not) seems to be in the news daily. The good news is, we’re here to help! We want to make it easier for everyone to make good decisions about the foods they buy. But first, we need your help.
Relish is a new app designed for us to learn how to help people shop for food better. That doesn’t mean we want to tell you what to buy! Instead, we want to understand the types of signals we can give people that will increase their feelings of wellbeing, reduce their stress, make them feel happier, remind them of their health goals, or anything else that might promote healthier shopping behavior. The truth is, we all know we should eat our vegetables. But grocery stores are places where what we know and what we do don’t always line up. Social science has taught us a lot about some of the reasons for this, but we still have lots to learn about how to help people make good decisions in the grocery store.
So how does it work? It’s easy! All you have to do is download the app for free, allow us to send you notifications when you’re about to do your grocery shopping, and we’ll give you coupons on your phone! For now, this app is only available to members of the Durham Co-op Market, but we hope to expand in the future.
Let’s go shopping together!
This app makes use of your phones motion and fitness data in order to know when you have entered the participating grocery store. That way we can send you a notification with a coupon.
